March 20, 2026 Newsletter: For a Better Life at Home
I recently listened to one of my regular podcasts, Pulling the Thread with Elise Loehnen, and the title really struck me—The Deep Need for Individuation. I questioned, "Don't we need community more than ever right now? How does focusing on self help achieve that?"

The conversation makes it clear, however, that individualism and individuation are very different concepts. The first focuses on self but lacks accountability, while the other is the journey of commitment to personal values and becoming your genuine self. When you work toward being genuine, you let go of things that don't resonate, and embody ideals that help you connect authentically with others.
And so, it is through individuation that "you become yourself, and then in becoming yourself and expressing some form of creativity, you together with other people form community." This is what I aspire to create with Flourish & Foundry—for you, the customer, to feel like you can create a home that encourages self-reflection, harbors your values, and acts as a fertile place for your own life journey. In turn, your home feels like a welcoming place for others. Similarly, we give our makers and artists runway to showcase their creativity and make a living. Their story is directly connected to yours. Community is created through intention, meaningful connection and shared values.
The relationships we have with our makers are incredibly important to us. Not only to we love seeing these small businesses thrive, but they bring unmatched value through their craft and creativity, whether global or local to us here in Boston.
A look at some of our makers:
